What a busy week we’ve had:

Painting poster boards to prepare for the city of Shushan

Decoration boxes for Mishloach Manot, in preparation to give them to a friend to fulfill one of the four Purim mitzvot.

Provocation used to tell the kids the story of Purim. Instead of reading the children the whole Megillah, I told a story of Queen Ester, King Achashverosh, Mordechai and Hamen with these beautifully hand painted wooden puppets.

Crazy hair day, Ella was painting near the city of Shushan

Two kings in Shushan

Water balloon play. The balloons were only half way filled so it made it more challenging for the kids to pop them.

Mila mixing the batter for the hamamtashen

Costume party for our final day of spirit week

 Dear Parents,

Now that we are 2/3 of the way through our school year, we must begin to prepare for what will be expected of us next year. We are working on keeping our personal items organized and consistently incorporating literacy in our curriculum.

We played with our Purim play dough and small, wooden figurines of Mordecai, Haman, Queen Esther and King Achashverosh.

When we saw that Morah Perline donated fresh lemons to our school, we decided to make lemonade together. The children learned about the different ingredients and the steps of the process required to make delicious sweet lemonade. This was allowed our friends to explore math principles by measuring ingredients and science principles by exploring what happens as ingredients combine together.

As we created lemonade, we taste tested the lemons and discovered how our bodies react to a sour taste. Shai had a very strong reaction!

We celebrated Ella’s 4th birthday!

But first, we worked together to bake a cake together for her party.

Watching  our garden grow has been a very exciting experience for us.

This week, the children chose to use our outdoor platform to travel to outer space. They remembered to buckle their seatbelts and put on their helmet!

David decided to pretend to be a fruit tree. Looks like someone is still in the Tu B’ Shvat spirit!

We also made graggers in preparation for our Purim celebration.

Many of our activities this week focused on multi-step processes. This challenges each child to expand their attention span and see how their work can progress over time. The graggers we made are a great example of this. First each child filled their tube with small, loose parts. Once they decided that they were full enough, a morah taped the top part so that the loose parts were stuck inside. The children went on to use glue and paint brushes to add tissue paper squares. They finished their work by coloring with markers and adding their names. We discussed how the graggers looked and sounded at each step of the process. The children were able to observe the ways that each gragger changed as they continued to add to their work.

Thanks for a wonderful week in the Green Room!

This week was predominantly an extension of last weeks curriculums with a couple added twist. We continued doing planting and talking about how we can make things grow and what is required . We also have continued to talk about where things grow and played a really fun game . The kids identified  whether things grow on a bush, tree or vine. This week we made two more birdseed feeders and hung them in the trees around the yard. The kids and I planted our flower bulbs and have been cultivating them as well as our garden on the playground. Letter identification is something that’s been an ongoing curriculums this week the children each got a name card and practice writing their own names which they were all very successful that.

Happy birthday Jonny we celebrated today with the class
